In 1892, the women of Washington set the state flower to a vote. They were in search of a flower to enter in a floral exhibit at the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. The Rhododendron has large clusters of showy flowers in shades of pink, orchid, purple and even red and white. There are a tremendous number of hybrids and varieties available for landscape. Rhododendron lovers refer to them as “rhodie” . The American Rhododendron Society encourages interest in rhodies and disseminates knowledge about rhododendrons and azaleas.

The WSFGC consists of 200 clubs, 4524 members in Washington State. The state is divided into 15 Districts with a Director for each one. Organized in 1933 and a member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs and also part of the Pacific Region.
The types of programs that the WSFGC offers include:

The WSFGC Scholarship program gives seven $1000.00 scholarships through the U.of Wash.,WA. State and Huxley Enviromental School.
