State Flower: wild Prairie Rose Rosa arkansana

The single flower sports five bright pink petals with a tight cluster of yellow stamens in the center. The Wild Prairie Rose grows along roadsides, in pastures, and in native meadows. There are differing opinions on the species arkansana, it has also been keyed as pranticola, so perhaps this is not a species to itself. Both are known by the common name Wild Prairie rose and both are beloved by their states… Iowa and North Dakota have both named this pretty rose as their state flowers.
