State Flower: Trailing-Arbutus Epigaea repens

Trailing-Arbutus, also commonly known as Mayflower, gravel plant and ground laurel is the official state flower of Massachusetts. The flower clusters, which appear from March to May, consist of fragrant, delicate, shell pink, waxy blossoms. The plant grows very low to the ground and is easily overlooked with it’s diminutive stature and habit of growing in amongst fallen leaves on the edge of the forest. The plant is on the endangered species list and must not be collected, rather enjoyed in the wild. A tribute to the flower is paid at this site
