State Flower: Peach Blossom Prunus persica

Though Georgia enjoys the modern recognition as the Peach state, in the 1890’s Delaware’s orchard industry depended largely upon the Peach. Thus, in 1895, the Peach Blossom was officially adopted as the state flower. Fragrant and pink, peach blossoms herald the beginning of spring. Later, in the summer, the blossoms give way to sweet peach fruits. Peach tree branches can be cut in the early spring and brought inside to force the blossoms.
