The Mountain Laurel was named the state flower of Connecticut in 1907. This native American shrub is loaded with masses of pink and white blossoms in the spring. Against the glossy dark green foliage of the Mountain Laurel and amidst the browns of forest floor, the blossoms attract attention from tourists and travelers as they pass through Connecticut and the north east of the United States. At Christmas time, luxurious garlands are often made to adorn homes and churches, however collectors should be aware that the plant is protected and many only be cut from cultivated populations.
